Rick was born in Brownsville, TX in May 1960. Graduated from Pace High School in 1978 and joined the US Army where he was eventually stationed at West Point Military Academy in New York. It was there that he was assigned to the school's photojournalism department in support of the West Point newspaper "The Pointer View." It was also where he first picked up a camera and began seriously learning is craft and developing his unique eye behind the lens. Rick went on to be the "Photojournalist of the Year" (twice!) for all of the US Armed Forces at the time.
Before returning to Texas in 1991, Rick worked freelance for in New York for clients including New York Newsday, The Hartford Courant, Newsweek, Young & Rubicam, The Los Angeles Times, the US Army Reserve and the Associated Press.
After his return, he settled back in Texas and started working as a photojournalist for the San Antonio Express News, where he stayed for over 10 years. During this time he covered events such as Mexican Presidential elections, US Naval operations in the Adriatic Sea, Papal visits, conditions in Cuba and Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico and Guatemala.
His work is featured in many corporate art collections in hotels, hospitals and businesses including local AT&T offices, Baptist Hospitals, SACVB, Bromley Communications, Saatchi & Saatchi, CBS News, MCA Records and on permanent display in the new SA Convention Center.
Rick also served for five years as artistic consultant and corporate photographer for the international firm of Zachry Construction Company based in San Antonio.
Rick has been published in many national and regional publications, has won numerous awards and has been honored by organizations including the Texas Headliners Foundation, the National Press Photographers Association, American Photo Magazine, Metro Photo Magazine, Life Magazine's Eisie Awards, the Japanese Intl Sports Foundation and the Dallas Press Katie Awards.
